Volkswagen Introduces Electric Versions of Its Classic Race Support Vans – CleanTechnica

Volkswagen, the German automaker, has recently introduced electric versions of its classic race support vans. The company has been working on this project for quite some time now, and it is finally ready to unveil the new electric models.

The classic race support vans have been a staple in the motorsports industry for decades. They are used to transport equipment, tools, and personnel to and from the race track. These vans are known for their durability, reliability, and spacious interiors. However, they are also known for their high fuel consumption and emissions.

To address this issue, Volkswagen has developed electric versions of its classic race support vans. These vans are powered by a 111 kWh battery pack that provides a range of up to 400 km (248 miles) on a single charge. The vans can be charged using a fast charger, which can charge the battery up to 80% in just 45 minutes.

The electric race support vans are not only environmentally friendly but also more efficient than their gasoline-powered counterparts. They have a maximum power output of 150 kW (201 hp) and can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 8 seconds. This makes them faster and more agile than the traditional race support vans.

The interior of the electric race support vans has also been redesigned to accommodate the new electric drivetrain. The battery pack is located under the floor, which frees up space in the cargo area. The vans also come equipped with a range of modern features such as a touchscreen infotainment system, climate control, and advanced safety features.

Volkswagen has already started testing the electric race support vans in real-world conditions. The vans have been used to support the Volkswagen ID.R electric race car during its record-breaking runs at the Nürburgring and Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

The introduction of electric race support vans is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for motorsports. It shows that even the most traditional aspects of the industry can be modernized and made more environmentally friendly. Volkswagen’s electric race support vans are a testament to the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.
