### **The Vision: Clean Energy for a Digital Future**

Crusoe Energy is best known for its pioneering work in mitigating natural gas flaring, a process where excess natural gas from oil production is burned off, releasing harmful greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. By capturing this otherwise wasted energy, Crusoe converts it into electricity to power modular data centers. These data centers are strategically located near oil and gas sites, turning an environmental liability into a valuable resource.

With the new $600 million investment, Crusoe aims to scale its operations and position itself as a leader in the clean energy revolution for AI. The funding will enable the company to build additional data centers, expand its energy capture technology, and support the growing computational demands of AI and machine learning applications.

### **The Growing Demand for Sustainable AI Infrastructure**

The rapid rise of AI technologies, from large language models like ChatGPT to advanced image recognition systems, has created an unprecedented demand for computational power. Training and running AI models require vast amounts of energy, often leading to concerns about the environmental impact of these technologies. According to a 2019 study by the University of Massachusetts Amherst, training a single large AI model can emit as much carbon as five cars over their lifetimes.

Crusoe Energy’s solution addresses this challenge by providing a sustainable energy source for AI workloads. By repurposing flared natural gas, the company not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also offers a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional data centers, which often rely on fossil fuels or grid electricity.

### **How Crusoe’s Technology Works**

Crusoe’s proprietary Digital Flare Mitigation® technology captures flared natural gas at oil and gas production sites and converts it into electricity. This electricity is then used to power on-site data centers equipped with high-performance computing hardware. The modular design of these data centers allows them to be deployed quickly and efficiently, making them ideal for remote locations.

The company’s approach has already proven successful in reducing emissions. According to Crusoe, its operations have eliminated hundreds of millions of cubic feet of flared gas, equivalent to removing tens of thousands of cars from the road annually. With the new funding, Crusoe plans to scale this impact significantly.
