3M and Discovery Education have recently announced the 10 grant recipients who will be supporting young scientists. The program, called the Young Scientist Challenge, is aimed at encouraging students in grades 5-8 to explore their passion for science and innovation. The grant recipients will receive funding to support their projects and ideas, as well as access to resources and mentorship from 3M scientists.

The Young Scientist Challenge is an annual competition that invites students to submit a video showcasing their innovative ideas and solutions to real-world problems. The 10 grant recipients were selected from a pool of over 5,000 applicants from across the United States. Each recipient will receive a $1,000 grant to support their project, as well as a trip to the 3M Innovation Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, where they will have the opportunity to work with 3M scientists and learn about the latest advancements in science and technology.

The 10 grant recipients are:

1. Anjali Chadha, from California, who is developing a device to detect early signs of Parkinson’s disease.

2. Anishaa Sivakumar, from Texas, who is creating a biodegradable plastic alternative using shrimp shells.

3. Arnav Krishna, from California, who is developing a low-cost water filtration system for rural communities.

4. Audrey Gallier, from Florida, who is creating a device to help people with hearing loss communicate more effectively.

5. Emily Tianshi, from California, who is developing a device to detect early signs of Alzheimer’s disease.

The Young Scientist Challenge is just one of the many initiatives that 3M and Discovery Education are involved in to support STEM education and inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators. Through programs like this, students are given the opportunity to explore their passions and develop the skills they need to succeed in the 21st century workforce.
